Convention 2017 - there's more...

Convention 2017 is coming - 31 March to 2 April! Here is some more information so that you know what you are letting yourself in for. Alongside Peggy Harris we have Suz Humpheys and Kim Moody.

See the Convention 2017 page for full details and a link to the booking form.

Suz Humphreys runs her own business called Surrey Crafts, teaching various arts and crafts classes in Surrey. She is mostly self-taught, spending hours researching and playing with ideas. She has attended workshops with some of the biggest names in the industry, including Tim Holtz, Wendy Vecchi, Dyan Reaveley and of course Andy Skinner!

She teaches mixed media classes, jewellery making and creative embroidery, and loves upcycling; taking unloved items and giving them a makeover.

She is part of Andy Skinner’s Ministry of Mixology team in the UK, on DecoArt’s Helping Artist programme, and a recognised tutor for ‘You Can Folk It’

She has been published in mixed media magazines and recently launched her own stamp set.

Suz is teaching her feather design on Friday morning and a Folk It design on Friday afternoon.

Kim Moody is returning to teaching art/crafts after a few years doing IT support, and coaching. He and his wife, Julie, ran a ceramic teaching studio near Southampton, and he travel-taught across the south of England as an ambassador for Duncan Enterprises.

He was taught his stroke-work by the king of brush-strokes, David Hoff, and his ambassador training by the late Gini Figueras, and Rhonda Thorne.

He will teach anything, and his favourite disciplines are trompe l'oeil, and paint effects, and loves to try new techniques. He writes articles, and flash fiction (very short stories) for fun.

He is on DecoArt's Helping Artist programme.

Kim is teaching mixed media effects on the cover of an art journal on Saturday. He has also been volunteered to take the 'Friday Fun' after dinner ...

Sunday morning's session will be 'Daisies and Ribbons', a stroke work design by BADFA teacher, Rowena Howell. If Rowena is not available, this will be taught by Kim.

Inktober 2016

Hi,

October is Inktober!

In the September newsletter I told you about Jake Parker's challenge to get everyone being creative and developing their drawing and inking skills. The idea is that every day for a month (October) you post an ink drawing on the internet (with #inktober #inktober2016) - just for fun and to get those creative juices flowing. No prizes!

Doing a drawing every day is quite a heavy commitment, so I've chosen the 'lite' option - just the weekends. I've used Jake's list of prompts, and have posted the drawings on my personal blog .

Have any of you taken up the challenge? There's still half a month to go! If you have, we'd love to see your work. Leave us a comment and tell us where to find your work.

Happy painting ( and drawing)!

September News 2016

September news is out. Check your spam folders if it hasn't arrived.
Cover of our Autumn 2013 edition

Well, submissions are in and now we have the task of going through them to see who will be presenting at Convention 2017.

Our guest artist is Peggy Harris, and we will soon have details of her classes. Plans are progressing nicely.

Summer is fading and winter is looming on the horizon, but in the mean time we have the season of golds and bronzes, yellows and browns, and of course, Hallowe'en. And Day of the Dead, with its brightly decorated skulls, is also a good excuse to get the brushes out.

How about sending me pictures of your autumn projects? And while you are being creative, send me your Christmas projects, too. I'd love to publish your work in the newsletter.

Next issue is out at the end of October ... happy painting!

Only a brief issue this month - but with the on-line version you can always have a browse through previous issues.

Enjoy what's left of summer ... next issue at the end of September.

July news will be with you shortly

Hi members!

It's been a busy month, and I've just finished the newsletter. I've sent it to the rest of the committee to proof read - there are bound to be mistakes!

So hopefully it will be out in the world with you very soon.

We, the committee that is, are now discussing what we'll be doing for the convention - we are getting really focussed - and in the August issue we should have lots more to tell you. So make sure that where ever you go on holiday that you have access to the internet for your copy of the news.

I'll let you know when July's has been sent.

Saturday 2 July 2016

June news is out!

OK everyone, check your inboxes - and your spam folders - the June edition has been sent out and every member should have a copy!

I need you all to open it and click the links to read the issue in the Joomag, page turning version, to make sure it works for you.

If you find that the application doesn't work, of that the copy won't open, or you have any problems reading it - please let me know.

If necessary I will send you a separate copy - we don't want you missing out.

Apart from that - I hope that you are finding some sunshine, and enjoying our great British summer.

Don't forget, I'd love to hear from you, especially if you are sending something for the newsletter ...

Now that voting is over ...

Interesting times. Tomorrow (24/6/2016) we'll know THE answer.

But for us BADFA bunch, we are still in the head scratching phase. We are starting to put next year's event together, and we'll say more as things develop.

The June issue of the Decorative Folk Artist is making progress and should be out to members in the near future.

Now all the nonsense of the referendum is over we can focus on important stuff.

Saturday night chaos

Karen Hubbard and her happy Sunday class

Sunday 22 May 2016

Wow! What a weekend!

Well, the convention is over, and was a great success. All three days were filled, the Friday night 'fun factory' was a 'towering success', Saturday paint-til-late was a session of mixed media, and all in all a great time was had by all who went.

I'm putting the members' newsletter together, and that will be going out soon, and when I get a spare moment I'll get so pictures here, too!

Come back soon!

Busy days at BADFA - 2016 Convention

Everything is coming together for the Convention, and it seems more of you than ever want to spend the weekend with us, and our guest, Karen Hubbard.

Places are filling fast. Saturday's class is sold out, but if you are quick there are a couple of places free for Friday and Sunday.

Of course you don't have to sign up for a class just to be there. We will have our usual trade stands, make'n'takes, Friday evening fun, Saturday night Paint 'til late, the AGM, and the chance to 'talk paint' with like-minded friends. We will be pleased to see you if you just want to drop in and say 'Hi!'

All those who have signed up for classes will get the traditional hand-painted badge - I've had a productive day and got them all done! No last minute rush for me this year!

See our Convention 2016 page for all the information.

Not long to go!

Convention early bird discount

Attention all you not-so-early early birds!

The discount for early booking your places at convention, was due to expire on 29 February, but we thought that wouldn't give you time to recover from Christmas.

So, because we're a bunch of softies, AND we want as many as possible to enjoy painting with Karen Hubbard, we are extending the date to 1 April. You'd be a fool to miss out.

Full details and a booking form are on the 2016 Convention page. A member taking full advantage of the discounts on offer could save up to £45.

Non-members are welcome, too!

PS - The February newsletter is on its way - check your inbox.
